Alaves Preview

Alaves have been one of the biggest early surprises in La Liga, collecting seven points from their opening three matches after finishing just 14th last season. Quique Sanchez Flores' side began with a 3-0 victory over Getafe, drew 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano and then produced an impressive 1-0 win over Champions League outfit Villarreal. That run has lifted them into fourth place and transformed expectations around the club. Four summer signings have strengthened the squad despite 11 departures, while Mariano Diaz has already scored twice in three league appearances and is expected to start after Toni Martinez picked up an injury.

Osasuna Preview

Osasuna have matched Alaves' seven-point start and arrive in fifth place after two consecutive victories. Luis Miguel Ramis' side opened the campaign with a goalless draw against Levante before beating Celta Vigo 2-1 and Getafe 1-0, with experienced striker Ante Budimir converting the decisive penalty in their latest match. Osasuna added Diego Rico, Romain Del Castillo, Rockson Yeboah and Jonathan Dubasin during the summer, although Victor Munoz's departure to Liverpool represents a significant loss. Budimir has already scored twice this season and will again be the focal point of the attack, while Ruben Garcia is expected to retain his position on the right.

Probable Lineups

Alaves (4-3-3)

Sivera; Perez, Tenaglia, Koski, Otto; Ibanez, Blanco, Rodriguez; Rebbach, Boye, Diaz

Osasuna (4-2-3-1)

Herrera; Arguibide, Catena, Herrando, Bretones; Moncayola, Munoz; Ruben Garcia, Oroz, Gomez; Budimir

We Say

This is arguably the most evenly matched fixture of the four. Both teams have seven points, both have shown impressive defensive organisation, and both arrive with confidence after winning their previous league matches. Alaves have home advantage and the momentum of their victory over Villarreal, while Osasuna possess an experienced finisher in Budimir who can punish even the smallest defensive mistake. This could come down to which side handles the midfield battle and transition moments more effectively.
